Customers with 30gb Zune devices may experience issues when booting their Zune hardware. We’re aware of the problem and are working to correct it. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!
Zune Service Status note from the official Zune support site.
At 2 AM this morning, pretty much every Zune 30 in the world stopped working in an event being dubbed Z2K9 (although the culprit isn’t likely to be a calendar-based issue).
Update: Official fix — wait until next year.

I have always rooted for the Underdog. Perhaps it is naive to cast MicroSoft in the role of David to the Goliath of the Ipod. But I took a chance on the Zune when it was first introduced and I have never looked back. I became a frequent advocate of this new age Mp3 player. So I was alarmed when I discovered that the Zune was having a complete meltdown. I cannot afford to suffer from any technical difficulties right now given my financial situation. And there was a 24 hour gap between my discovery of the problem and the first opportunity to check on my own device. I have not lead a charmed life, but I am feeling lucky today. I am glad to report that I have not experienced any problems with the contraption. I feel like I have dodged a major bullet. This is further proof that 2009 will be mine!
